2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come.
Have you ever noticed how many different things it takes to make a big meal? When I go in the kitchen at home, I am always amazed. There are spices, and packages of ingredients, and cans of soups, and other things. All of them can be mixed together to make great food.
If you stay in the kitchen long enough, you will notice that sometimes you don't have to work quite that hard all the time to make something good. Sometimes all you have to do is to add water to something and it becomes a food that we enjoy eating.
Can you believe how easy it is to just add water to some foods and then pop them into the microwave and “WAMO!” you have turned it into something we can eat! Now let me ask you something else about these “Instant” foods. Do you think we can turn them back again? After the water is added and all the necessary preparations are completed, could we change them back to what they were? No, we can't do that. Once the change occurs, they have become something new.
The Bible tells us that it is also true with our lives as Christians. When we know Jesus in our hearts, and begin to follow Him, we are no longer the same people we were before. Jesus starts to work within us to change us day by day so that we become more and more like Him. That is what is so exciting about being a Christian! God always has something more in store for us in knowing and following His Son!
